It just takes a bit of bug detectors and a few of those vehicle tracking systems to impress the fans. If you look back at the last Pierce movie you will find that there are just too many gadgets in it so I think what we need is something inbetween this, a bit like the older Bond films!

Craig Wants In

Craig himself had actually said that he really wants to see some great gadgets in the movies and if the main actor wants then usually he gets, it is safe to say that every other Bond has had some great toys to play with in the films, why should Craig not be given this amazing chance?. As you are playing Bond I would imagine that gadget using is one of the more exciting aspects of the film.

Keeping It Real

Something that the guys at MGM want to do is make sure that Bond gets better and better with time and in order to do this it would seem that you need to keep it real. Although there are some gadgets out there that are believable there is many that if you included them in Craig’s Bond portrayal they would just not look right and people would not buy into the storyline.

Not according to 24-year old filmmaker Lena Dunham, who’s been developing a large stir with her low-budget, critically acclaimed feature Tiny Furniture. Shot for just under the price of a mid-sized car, there is absolutely nothing mid-sized concerning the response that Dunham has been acquiring for Tiny Furniture. The film took property the top prize at the South by Southwest Film Festival and has attracted big-name fans like Judd Apatow and Will Ferrell.

I could not quit laughing at the end of the film.

Well, the publicity machine for the highly anticipated fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie is already in town, with a new trailer in front of all Winter film releases. Despite the interchangably ‘not that great’ second and third installments, ‘On Stranger Tides’ is bound to take figures approximating the billion dollars that ‘Dead Man’s Chest’ made. A more welcome return to Barbados holidays is difficult to imagine.

But what about that troubled sailing for ‘On Stranger Tides’? Well, plenty of big names have left along the way. It will be interesting to see how the film works out now that Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom’s characters are no longer part of the picture (Depp’s Jack Sparrow is of course the main event, but Will and Elizabeth were often the substance of the previous installments). But during the film’s pre-production, the most dangerous axe to fall was in the boardroom: Disney CEO Bob Iger ousted long time chairman Dick Cook in September 2009. Johnny Depp and Dick Cook were close friends, and Depp was at one time expected to leave over the controversial ejectionion. As anyone who has seen Pirates will tell you, Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow seems a lot like the only interpretation that was ever possible. With Cook gone, Depp claimed there ‘was a crack in [his] enthusiasm’. Thankfully for everyone, he decided to stay on, so it’s Antigua holidays for Jack Sparrow all over again.

‘On Stranger Tides’ is based on a late 80s fantasy novel of the same name. In the original ‘On Stranger Tides’, Jack Shandy is duped by a British professor into joining a crew to find the Fountain of Youth. The real-life pirate figure, Blackbeard, is also involved in the intrigue. Pirates of the Caribbean Four is inevitably only a loose adaptation of the book, but most of the key players and location are retained. Whilst Jack Shandy is now Jack Sparrow, Blackbeard is the villain, the Fountain of Youth is the mythical places both sides are seeking. No globe trotting detours for Vietnam holidays or Diary Farming fighters in this motion picture.

Fourth films are always tricky business, but ‘On Stranger Tides’ has seen a quicker turnaround than most. Here’s hoping that this isn’t the Pirates film that ‘nukes the fridge’, Indiana Jones style.
