Are Home Theater Systems Making Movie Theaters Obsolete?

When I watch an old movie on television, I wonder what it would have been like to see it on the big screen. Can you imagine a time when you had to leave your home to watch a movie? Can you imagine going back in time and telling people sitting in a dark movie house that someday they could watch the same movie in their home? Today with the best home theater systems ever invented, movie going is becoming a thing of the past.

These days you can have a better sound system in your home than movie houses had in the 20th century. Dolby surround sound allows you to hear background noise behind you while hearing the dialog in front of you.

If you can control all of the movie experience at home, why go out to a theater? Sure you have to pop your own popcorn but it is usually a lot cheaper than at the theater.

Sure the number of people going to the movies has affected the movie industry. But they have adapted. They are still making money off their productions.

They know that people would rather pay for a DVD they can watch over and over again verses paying for a movie ticket where they can watch the movie only once. This is why the movie industry is promoting DVD’s over movies. They have a whole new market to work with.

The movie industry is working with the best home theater systems by making movies with a lot of unique sound so that people buy DVD’s not only for the video but also for the audio. Thus, everyone is happy. People enjoy their home movie experience and the film makers have found a new source of income. When was the last time you went to the movies?
