The Basics of HDTV Speakers

If you replace your standard TV speakers with a unique and stand-alone speaker system, it can result in a total change in the sound quality giving you a much improved audio experience. If you will only be watching soaps on it you may not care so much, but anyone that watches films, DVD’s, blu-ray and even gamers should consider it as an option. Even if you buy a really expensive TV, you won’t get the same sort of sound quality possible with the speaker systems available now. Marketers are very good at convincing us to buy HD Television sets as the next generation of home viewing pleasure but most people purchase them after they have seen them working outside of a store environment – like at their friends house for example.

Before rushing out and buying a new HD Television, you should consider carefully what you want from it, and what your budget is. If you are going to be buying – or already have – surround sound speakers, as a general rule of thumb, 10 percent of the TV’s cost should be spent on speaker cabling. External speakers will also require a decent amplifier if you want the best from them. This is also an extra cost from several hundred upwards into the thousands but warrants another article altogether.

Speakers generally come in several forms, although there are many factors of them, you are typically looking at a ratio of 5. The speakers consist of one centre speaker, a left and right “surround” speaker – these typically sit at the far, front corners from the seat and a left and right rear speaker. While each of these are independent but their positioning have to done in such a way that the seating place is in the center. You can configure the av receivers and amplifiers to optimize the volume output and place the speaker accordingly.

The basic function of a sub-woofer is to give the movie sound a real-life feel so having one would improve your overall movie viewing experience. It brings sounds to life – it creates the small, but intensifying vibrations that we all know from watching movies at the cinema. Besides the deep bass frequencies which the sub woofers emit have a surrounding effect since they are at par or below the level of human hearing. It is very difficult for our ears to actually pin-point the direction in which the sound is coming and that is why we can only sense that an earthquake seems to be all around us, rather from coming from a particular direction.

The subwoofer can be placed anywhere in the room, however, optimum results depend on room size, floor type, furnishings, and wall construction. The ideal position however of the sub woofer is in the front section of the room immediately to the right or left of the primary speakers. Second hand speakers are of course less expensive. An excellent starter choice for speakers, if its within budget is the Canton movie CD-1 (now CD-101) which has a high quality, slimline aluminium construction that makes it a real eye-catcher.
