The distribution of non-broadcast programs either on the Internet or on DVDs has its origin in a certain type of video production. These types of productions are usually made on low budgets, but the low costs don’t necessarily imply low audience levels. On the contrary, millions of people watch them daily, as it is the case with the productions cast on Youtube. Due to the amazing technological advances, the differences between video production and television production are becoming more and more limited and unclear. Besides the budget and team production size, which will be larger for television programs, the broadcast mode is the one to differentiate between TV and video production since the former reaches larger numbers of people at the same time. TV transmissions are required to follow strictly controlled technical feature levels. Yet, TV productions somehow overlapse with video production if a non-broadcast method is used for distribution.

Although video production seems pretty simple, due to the way the equipment has been designed for quick easy use, yet not anyone is good at it. The human factors is usually to blame for video production failure, either because of lack of commitment or lack of skill. The video camera connects the viewer with a certain spatial location, while the microphone renders the sound. Most of the users just point the video camera and microphone at the subject and start recording but the result is often dissatisfying. Thus, it is more than obvious that the producer’s skills or talent and the ability to choose lighting, setting and even subject, represent the know-hows of this art form. It is important that you know how to handle the equipment and the effects of its various controls and functions properly how to increase the efficiency of the equipment – developing the skills necessary to image and sound recreation, how to convey ideas and emotions convincingly – using the medium in a smart way, as well as how to take care of the entire system – using practical planning, preparation, and production.

If we discuss video production from the professional perspective, we can say it is both the service of videotaping, editing and distributing a finite product as well as an art. It can include television production, corporate and event videos and commercial video production. Corporate video production covers a wide variety of purposes, from the recording of events such as conventions, sales and conferences to training education and corporate communication. Furthermore, video production creates applications  for other smaller events such as sports, church or school ceremonies.
