Driving Lessons – An Overview Of The Film
The Network Premier of “Driving Lessons” starring Rupert Grint and Julie Walters received great reviews at the film festival in 2006. The film is based on a story about Rupert Grint who plays the character of Ben Marshall, a young teenager, who is extremely shy and loves writing poetry. Ben is the son of two very religious people. His father is a vicar and his mother has a strong faith and does various charitable acts for the local community.
During the summer holidays, Ben meets Evie, an aging actress, who became an alcoholic after her once flourishing career faded in the sunset and she was reduced to acting in daytime soap operas. Evie posted a job ad for a housekeeper and since Ben was looking for a job during the summer, he immediately responded to the ad and was taken on by Evie as her housekeeper. However, because Ben was brought up in a much-protected Christian family where his parents constantly dictated to him, he was not prepared at all for the adventures he was going to have with his new employer.
Despite the fact that the movie was called “Driving Lessons”, the main them centres around how Ben finally plucks up the courage to be his own person and take the driving seat in his own life where he dictates what he will do and not his parents. The movie is very much enjoyable to watch with a lot of emotion, especially on both Ben and Evie’s side. Evie has had a very unhappy life and Ben does everything he can to make her feel happy and needed.
“Driving Lessons” was mainly shot in London, Edinburgh, and Buckinghamshire. It has a lovely soundtrack with music from Nick Drake as well as Richard Thompson and Ben Folds among other artists.
Driving Lessons is likely to be inspirational to all youngsters that feel trapped in the same way that Ben did and maybe taking driving lessons is not such a bad idea to reflect on and hopefully make sense of your life. Life is one big adventure so try and grab every opportunity to enjoy it wherever possible because you never know what will happen tomorrow.
